International Theater Day is on March 27th, the date chosen by the Performing Arts and Audiovisual Foundation, in partnership with the National Cultural Institute (INAC), to kick off the 6th International Performing Arts Festival - Panama 2014 (FAE 14). This biennial event, first held in 2004, for exactly one week, until April 2nd, will turn our city into the center of a grand festival of theater and contemporary dance from around the world.
The organization has already confirmed or is in the final selection process of the first-rate groups and companies who will participate. They will be coming from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Spain, Finland, France, Mexico, and Panama, and thus far include four theater groups, one dance troupe, a contemporary circus group, and a magician.
The venues for the scheduled international and national attractions for adults will be at the National and Anita Villaláz Theaters and in alternative performance spaces like La Casona and Calicanto Hall. Children's plays will also be given in Anita Villaláz Theater and Amador Theater, and there will additionally be outdoor events in the Cathedral and Herrera Squares. In addition, the festival will offer a strong training component geared for theater and dance professionals and students, consisting of theater workshops, master dance classes, talks, panel discussions, and exposure to international journals in the Steps Academy and Amador Theater.
