Atlapa Convention Center
Up until now, Atlapa has been the venue for the biggest congresses and conventions that have taken place in Panama, given its large capacity for attendees and furniture. The balcony view of a theater like Anayansi has allowed audiences to enjoy innumerable galas and concerts, such as the 20-30 Telethon that has annually used these facilities. However, Panama is growing at an incredible speed, which has brought us to decide to further expand and give the world a new convention center. The larger building, with better facilities and improved services, will hold up to 20,000 people, in order to meet the growing demand that is projected for the coming years.
A New Convention Center
Through the construction of a grand new convention center, which will be several times the size of Atlapa and will multiply the tax benefits paid by the government of the United States to permit their companies to hold meetings and conventions in our country, we anticipate that we will become the center of international events in Latin America. In order to compete with the major players and a growing number of regional competitors, Panama will have to overcome several aspects that inhibit its competitiveness.
Panama's strategic geographical position and image as a business destination should be marketed to consolidate it as the main convention and business center in Latin America, taking advantage of the presence of Latin American companies in Panama and nearby markets for the development of these events and seeking to obtain a massive volume with a strong emphasis on attracting high quality visitors.
In this regard, the development of a new world-class convention, event and exhibition center that the national government is promoting will capitalize on the Panama Canal expansion and the opening of the Biodiversity Museum designed by Frank Gehry as an overarching means to achieve a massive volume of high quality foreign visitors from all international markets that stay in the country an average of 3-4 days. By developing competitive attractions that complement the main products, in areas such as historical and cultural heritage, sites such as the Amador Causeway (an area of tourism and urban entertainment) will receive added value, simultaneously boosting the business of local small tourism entrepreneurs and alternative operations.
