The soil and climate of the Chiriquí highlands is apt to cultivate a variety known as Geisha, originally from Ethiopia. In Panama, it has proved to make some of the world's best coffee. International buyers come every year to cup Chiriquí's Geisha and shell out hundreds of dollars for a pound of these beans, a source of pride for national coffee growers.
You can enjoy a good cup of coffee anywhere in the country. Don't expect to sample the Geisha, however; if a pound can demand over a hundred dollars, imagine how much a cup might cost!
