It is a picturesque village of fishers and merchants, the gateway to the Gulf of Montijo or to a paradise called Coiba. Visitors can access the mangroves by boat and explore the splendid Pacific islands of this province. Since the twentieth century, this town has served as the main coastal shipping port of the southern coast of Veraguas. Many people and merchandise from all over arrived to Veraguas via Mutis Port.

It is believed that Mutis Port is named after one of the founders from the mother country (Spain). For many fishermen, it is their preferred place to bring their boats loaded with seafood; likewise for those living in communities on the islands around the gulf and other coastal areas.

For its inhabitants, it represents an economic hub for the tourism, industrial, fishing and agricultural activities that this port generates. This privileged coast is only 15 minutes from the city of Santiago de Veraguas, and is the launching point for a visit to the island of Coiba.
