The reason of the royal couple's visit is to attend the opening event of the Second ICEX Meeting of Spanish Companies, called "Business Opportunities in Panama." They will also participate in various of the activities of this event, held in celebration of the discovery of the South Sea by Vasco Núñez de Balboa.

But it won't all be meetings, as they also plan to visit the current construction of the Metro and the Panama Canal.
