Painted Hat Festival starts

Yesterday the National Painted Hat Festival began in La Pintada, Coclé province.

This is the second year it has been held in La Pintada, a picturesque village and home of the famous painted hat. This festival features the traditions and craftsmanship of the local peasants, particularly those who make this hat.

Dana Castañeda, creator of the National Painted Hat Festival, said that this year they wanted to also incorporate schools, artists and students, to start the festival off with education and culture. There will be contests to evaluate the best speeches, murals and paintings by the renowned artists of La Pintada.

She further explained that this year the festival expenses exceed $100,000, and that, despite the obstacles presented by certain local authorities to block the activity, an appeal was lodged with the governor and the festival will be held without any problems.

This activity will culminate on Sunday, October 14.
