Paul Gauguin's passion for Panama

Seeking to broaden Panamanians' cultural knowledge, an outstanding example of modern painting from the late nineteenth century, for the first time ever, will be exhibited in the Interoceanic Canal Museum.

We are referring to the work of the world famous and highly valued French painter Paul Gauguin, who was on the isthmus during the era of French construction of the Panama Canal.

This exhibition is in honor of Gauguin's discovery of the tropics at the age of 39 years old, an event that marked the rest of his life.

The exhibition, entitled "Paul Gauguin, the dream of Panama", will be on display from December 7, 2012 until March 10, 2013. The exhibit will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and the entrance fee is $5.00.

"This exhibition permits aficionados of art and the public to gain an understanding of the context and the reality of Paul Gauguin's time in Panama, and to evoke the space it occupied in his life and work", emphasized Dr. Juan David Morgan, chairman of the Board of the Canal Museum.

The exhibit is sponsored by the French Embassy and the Interoceanic Canal Museum.
