Remembering Old Panama

Compendium of historical photographs to be exhibited for 16 days.

Facing the changes brought about by the construction of the new Cinquantenaire road, a group of residents of Old Panama seeks to salvage the cultural heritage of this town, which was founded in 1519, with the 'May Culture be Expressed' exhibition of over 200 photos and a video as of this Wednesday at the Old Panama Visitor Center.

The company Norberto Odebrecht came up with the initiative, which includes the collection of historical documents and testimonies of 15 residents of Old Panama, Villa del Rey and Puente del Rey, who served as chroniclers, explained Amelia Sánchez, an archaeologist for the construction project.

A tenth of the photographs on display until November 9 are a collaboration of various residents, such as José Navarro, who stated that documenting his surroundings served to better understand the local culture.
