Japan promises further investment in Panama

Yoshihiko Noda, the Prime Minister of Japan, declared his interest in promoting greater bilateral relations, the shipping industry and international trade with Panama.

"We are going to develop bilateral and political consultations with Panama, centered around the economy," stated Noda. Furthermore, he will encourage Japanese companies to invest in Panama, especially in infrastructure, and will strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

These statements by the Japanese minister were given during a meeting with the Panamanian president, Ricardo Martinelli.

"There will be more Japanese investment in the country after this visit, since it will become the port of entry for the Japanese companies to access Central and South America and the entire region," said the Panamanian leader.

The topic of the expansion of the Canal was also discussed, as Japan is one of the main users.
