National Flower of Panama

Panama's national flower is the orchid known as the Flower of the Holy Spirit, whose scientific name is Peristeria Elata. This orchid has a particular charm for its shape like a small white dove with open wings, inserted in the center of its petals.

It was declared the national flower of Panama on October 21, 1980 by the National Assembly of the Republic of Panama, a project that was promoted by a Miss Maria T.

The flower's symbolic value is so significant that every September an exhibition called Expo of the Flower of the Holy Spirit is held in the village of Las Minas, Herrera to display, contemplate and pay tribute to the flower, as well as sell regional crafts and goods.
