FIRST GRADUATION FROM TOURISM TRAINING COURSE: BASIC SKILLS FOR TOURIST GUIDES

The Faculty of Humanities, through its department of Continued Education, presented the official diplomas to 34 participants of the Tourism Training Course: Basic Skills for Tourist Guides in the Professor's Hall of the Faculty of Humanities at 7:00 p.m.
on November 27, 2012.

It was presided over by Dr. Miguel A. Candanedo, Secretary General of the University of Panama, Carlos Gasnell, Assistant Dean, Alejandra Sarmiento, Administrative Secretary, both from the Faculty of Humanities. In addition, Manuel Arango, participant of the training program and president of the Association of Tourist Guides of Panama, expressed his gratitude for the academic labor done by the Casa de Méndez Pereira in training professionals who are qualified and certified in tourism.

The subject matter of the tourism program consisted of Folklore and Tradition of Panama, Geographical Tourism of Panama, Flora and Fauna of Panama, Group Management, Basic First Aid, Essential History of Panama, Tourist Entertainment, Language and Literature of Panama and Tourism Legislation. Academic field trips were also taken to Punta Galeta Marine Laboratory and Gaital Hill in the Anton Valley. Lasting 320 hours, the primary objective of this course was to provide guides with the training and practice in the skills needed to perform their job in accordance with the standards of quality required by the Panama Tourism Authority and other tourism-related agencies.
