Aiming to increase coffee exports

Representatives of 100 European companies are interested in the Panamanian product.

A group of German investors dedicated to commercializing coffee were on tour at several coffee farms in Chiriquí.

The tour, organized by the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MICI), seeks to make way for a coffee showcase in Germany and other European countries.

More than 100 coffee companies in Europe sent representatives to tour Panamanian coffee farms, including La Esmeralda, which has been awarded important prizes at fairs around the world.

“We feel very satisfied with the product and the high standard of production. The farms appear in good condition,” declared Heico Rehorik, of the German Coffee Roasters Association.

“We are delighted by the interest that the foreigners showed for our product, especially the Europeans,” commented Rachel Petterson from Hacienda La Esmeralda.

The Germans went on to tour other areas of Río Sereno and Volcán, and then traveled to the provinces of Bocas del Toro and Colón.

Chiriquí coffee is exported to countries like Japan, Korea, Taiwan and the United States.

“We want to increase the amount of this product that we send to international markets,” explained Ben Cardoze of the MICI.
