St. Wilgefortis Patron Saint Festival
Date: July 19 to 23, 2013
Location: City of Las Tablas, Los Santos Province
The Holy Pilgrim was the first religious image that arrived at this town in the middle of the 17th century, which bestows it with great historical value. Known as The Pilgrim, The Petite or The Bearded Virgin, it came floating in from the sea in a box alongside a document that registered the saint, saying 'This is Saint Wilgefortis', hence she was referred to by this name.
This important holiday is held every July 19, and a large number of devotees from all over the country come to the industrious town of Las Tablas to participate in the procession and leave their offerings. The festival concludes with a famous midnight serenade in honor of the patron saint of Las Tablas.
