Everything seems to indicate that Panama will exceed 1,7 million tourists during 2010. Up to the 10th of December, one million 680 thousand tourists had entered Panama. Of these, 80% entered through Tocumen International Airport.
As mentioned by Ernesto Orillac, advisor of the Authority of Tourism of Panama (ATP), tourist activity grew 10% last year. There were many factors that caused this increase. One of these are the arrival of two cruises in the Por of Colón 2000, the Ocean Dream of the Spanish chain Pullman Tour and Grandeur of the you are of Royal Caribbean. By nationality, the reports of the ATP indicate that the number of Canadian during the first 11 months of the past year increased to 21% reporting the entrance of 42 thousand tourists, mainly in direct flights or charter. In 2010, there was also an increase of the arrival of European tourists, particularly of Spain, that contributed 28 thousand visitors. In agreement with the Ministry of Economy, the tourist industry from January to November of the past year reached 1.5 billion dollar mark. This represents an increase of 13,5% in comparison with equal period of the past year.
