Conventions in August generate 4,275 hotel nights in Panama

In the month of August eight conventions will be held in Panama, ranging from 50 to 800 participants each. The city hotels and beach resorts that serve as venues register over 4,275 room nights from these meetings, reported the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP).

They explained that these events are organized to hold health congresses, meetings among experts, or radio and satellite TV workshops.

The biggest event of the month is of an inter-American character. Hash House Harriers, a group of 800 hikers and outdoor enthusiasts, will generate 3,200 nights in beach hotels during their 5-day stay in Panama.

The Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) is an entity within the Panama Tourism Authority that promotes the arrival of groups, conventions, conferences, and events through a collaborative effort with the private sector. They anticipate that 180 international events will be held in the country in 2013, which will lead to 150,000 hotel nights.

Salomon Shamah, general manager of the ATP, said that Panama's tourist infrastructure of universally recognized hotel names and established national brands is helping it grow in the international market of conventions, reaching 24,000 hotel rooms available across the country.
