Digital passports will be ready in September

Carmen Bernárdez, National Director of the Passport Agency, indicated that the new digital passports will possibly be ready and in circulation by the end of September.

The official said the digital passport's price has not yet been determined, but could be higher than the current cost.

She explained that this new passport will come with many more pages, a longer period of validity, and in three types (urgent, regular, and frequent flyer), according to the client's needs.

Bernárdez added that the new passport will be equipped with security measures to prevent forgery and with provisions that adhere to international standards.

These passports are the product of an $18 million investment made by the Ministry of Government in 2012.
