Craft fair kicks off

Under the theme of "The business in your hands", the Minister of Commerce, Ricardo Quijano, accompanied by 1,200 Panamanian artisans, inaugurated the National Craft Fair, which will run until August 4th.

Damaris Delegado, the general director of handicrafts, revealed that last year the average sale of handicrafts was for $407,083.22, and the fair gathered $62.757 from admissions. This year they expect to exceed the 26,493 visitors who attended in 2012.

As part of the inauguration event, craftsman Olmedo Magallón was decorated with the rank of Commander in the Order Belisario Porras for his trajectory of more than 40 years, and special recognition was given to Belieda Espino for having organized the first National Craft Fair in 1977 and for her support of Panamanian artisans.
