Cardinal to visit Veraguas for first time

The Dominican Cardinal Nicolás de Jesús López Rodríguez, archbishop of Santo Domingo and known in the Catholic world as the "Primate of the Americas", will visit Veraguas Province this weekend as part of the Diocese of Santiago's celebration of their Golden Jubilee.

This is the first time that a cardinal will make a stop in Veraguas, and so the local Catholics deem it to be a momentous event that honors the province.

Cardinal López Rodríguez will tour different areas of the province this Saturday, visiting such sites as the San Miguel Arcángel de Atalaya parish (since it was the first Minor Basilica of Panama), the stone church San Francisco de la Montaña, and the Escuela Normal Juan Demóstenes Arosemena.

The "Primate of the Americas" will officiate the Mass at St. James Cathedral starting at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday evening.
