What's being said about Panama
Background: about the survey
The Worldwide Cost of Living is a bi-annual (twice yearly) Economist Intelligence Unit survey that compares more than 400 individual prices across 160 products and services. They include food, drink, clothing, household supplies and personal care items, home rents, transport, utility bills, private schools, domestic help and recreational costs. The survey itself is a purpose-built internet tool designed to calculate cost-of-living allowances and build compensation packages for expatriates and business travelers. The survey incorporates easy-to-understand comparative cost of living indices between cities.

The main city is its capital, Panama city, with appearance of a great metropolis and of captivating contrasts. With a population of almost 1.3 million of inhabitants, it has a modern airport that is considered to be the hub of Americas. It has countless modern skyscrapers, a historical center, an international network of banks, sophisticated stores and magnificent hotels.
First country of Central America, from South America, Panama is globally known by one of the greatest works of the humanity's engineering, Panama Canal. With 80 km of extension, it is through it that the two oceans Atlantic and Pacific communicate and where the distances between Ocident and Extreme Orient are shortened. Difficult not to be surprised—positively—when arriving in Panama.

With 2,857 kilometers (km) of coastline, Panama has a growing tourism industry that has generated a surge in its economy over the past 10 years, even during the years 2008-2009, when the world was being hit by the global financial crisis.
That’s what the New York Times is saying about Panama. The publishing giant’s travel section listed Panama as number one out of 45 Places to Go in 2012. Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones don’t disagree. They are on vacation in Panama this week with their family.

Tourism plays a role in the Panamanian government’s plans to grow the economy according to Ernesto Orillac, vice minister of tourism authority. “We have three major industries,” he said, “logistics and the Panama Canal; baking and financial services; and tourism. Although tourism represents a little less than 10 percent of the economy, it is growing at a good pace.
We have many projects in the pipeline and intent tp position Panama as a major destination.
