Merged in October 2010 for $3 billion dollars, Continental and United Airlines aspire to become the number one worldwide.
Rolf Meyer, Regional Director for Panama and the Andean region of United, explained about the plans that the company has in order to reach this purpose.
With the arrival of more than two million tourists annually, business opportunities and the emergence of many short-stay accommodations (hostels) are more evident, particularly in areas that were historically classified as exclusive residential areas
San Francisco, El Cangrejo, Vía Argentina and the Banking Area were included in the hostel project, despite the increasing number of hotel projects that annually open their doors in the country.
There are 15 hotels under constructions in the Capital City, and the largest one, Hard Rock Hotel, will be inaugurated in April.

2011 was a positive year for the Panamanian tourism in all aspects, as the barrier of two million visitors (in one year) was surpassed for the first time. Therefore, Panama is now considered as a top tourist destination, and not just as a transshipment point.
In addition to this growth in term of tourists, investment in lodging establishments has also registered a positive impact.

Santiago continues to be the most popular airport in Latin America among Latin Trade readers. It received the top spot in comfort/ambience and shops/amenities. The airport received 10.3 million passengers in 2010, according to Airports Council International.
Panama City is right behind, though, thanks to getting most votes in customs/baggage, ease of connection and location/access. Thanks largely to efforts by Panamanian airline Copa, the airport is becoming a major hub for traffic in Latin America. Last year the airport handled 5 million passengers. That compares with only 1.3 million tourist arrivals that year, clearly showing how the airport is being used as a hub.
