Crossroads and passage, Panama is a land of contrasts inhabited by a colorful mixture of races and customs.  Indians, European, creole, half-bred, blacks, Chinese, jewish, arab, hindu and people coming from all parts of the world, create an extraordinary melting pot of race s and customs which give Panamanian society a unique cultural character in the region.  The history and traditions combined with actuality, creating a fascinating multiplicity in perfect peace and harmony.

The multiple cultural roots of Panama have turned this country into an expressive and colorful place. This is specifically evident in the pieces of local crafts, some traditional and others more contemporary. The Panamanian craftsmen have created a wonderful collection of pieces of all types, so that the visitors take a good remembrance of their trip. Some of these works are true works of art, like the ones produced by the indigenous groups with different materials such as textile, wood, fibers and vegetal seeds. The designs of these crafts, inspired generally by the pre-Columbian art, are splendid creations of finest aesthetic.

Panama has multiple archeological monuments which are evidence of events and characters of the past.  From extraordinary Monolitos de Barril, sculptures in rock from a pre-colombian culture which was swept due to volcanic eruption, to the old paved streets of the colonial housing complex where the City of Panama was established, historical evidence to offer to tourists intimacy with predecessors times.  A walk through the remnants of the first Spanish city founded on the Pacific Coast, or a tour through the almost intact walls of Caribbean fortresses, create a vision of colonial times under the Spanish Crown.  There is also history in the old parts of the heads of provinces, wherein hundred old the walls of colonial churches still receive prayers and in the various museums throughout the country.

The cultural diversity of Panama is expressed in multiple ways, like the sparks of a gem.  Music, dance, handycrafts, plastic, rituals and religious beliefs  are part of the countries common living, are evidence of the country’s rich and intricated cultural knitting.  On special occasions and festivities  - such  as Carnival, fairs and patronage parties of the various are part of the  country’s daily life  - the happy spirit of the population overflows and the atmosphere is filled with musical rhythm, dances and parties Panamanians like.  In the villages of the provinces traditional expressions of the population may be appreciated, among them vernacular architecture, colorful dresses, songs and dance.  Handycrafts are particularly beautiful, specially the pieces made by original  Indian ethnic group, among them the mola, wood carvings and tagua seeds, and the incomparable bags made out of palma chunga and made by the Emberas and the Wounaans.

The cultural warps of Panama, product of its condition as corridor, is exceptional.  Indians, blacks, creoles, European, jewish, hindu, arab and Chinese live peacefully and in harmony, in this land which opened its doors to those who arrived from abroad and offered its heart to the ones who stayed.  All these races, together with their traditions and beliefs, are also part of the cultural patrimony of this  small strip of land where they found a new home.
