Elena Soler is visiting Panama from Spain for the third time, though she confesses that she is surprised by something new on each trip.
There are thousands of tourists like Elena who have touched down on the isthmus. During the first half of this year, 1.2 million visitors entered Panama and spent a record $1,437 million dollars, which is $136 million more than last year.
The Tourism Authority estimates that this year the country will receive over two million tourists, such as María Jesúsand Felicidad García, who heard of Panama while in Europe and landed on Saturday with a list of places they would like to visit.
In the first semester of 2013, there were 45,504 more visitors than in the same period the previous year.
