Starting in April, the Spanish line Pullmantur will have a ship sailing year-round from the terminal in Colón. For the third year in a row, two cruise ships are operating from the port of Colón 2000 on the Atlantic coast. The vessels have a combined capacity to carry nearly 4,000 passengers. Preliminary data shows that the boats are embarking with an occupancy rate higher than 90%, and they are expected to reach 100% occupancy in January and February, as happened last season.

The year 2013 will be challenging for Panamanian tourism, particularly the hospitality industry. Hotel occupancy fell 10 points in 2012, and there were not enough tourist arrivals to fill the rooms that have been recently built.

The image of Santa María la Antigua, known as the "Pilgrim Virgin", has been in Metetí in the province of Darién since Saturday, December 29, and will stay there until January 3. 

Panama Ports Company is expanding at the Balboa and Cristóbal ports. Both domestic and international ports are receiving new investments to handle increased freight loads, as a result of economic activity in the region.
