Celebrating Afro-colonial culture

On March 15th the 2nd Pollera Congo Festival will be held in the community of Portobelo, Colón

At this year's event, organized by the Portobelo Foundation and Cultural Heritage Preservation Group, there will be displays of crowns, garments, pollera dresses, handicrafts, photographs, and jewelery, as well as a complete spread of local cuisine.

All visitors are encouraged to bring a percussion instrument to play at the congo drum circle that will take place in the gazebo of Portobelo's main square. In addition, there will be an aquatic parade during the festival.

The festival theme is "Journey", in commemoration of the African dispersion across America, and some 15 groups from Panama City and Colón are expected to participate.
