It is located in the province of Darien and it is the largest national park in Panama, as well as one of the most important World Heritage Sites of Central American due to its genetic legacy and the diversity of its species and ecosystems. In Darien, populations of African ascent live together with three pre-columbine indigenous groups, creating a cultural mixture without precedent in the region. The Cana Environmental Center and Scientific Station is an important birding site located where the famous Mines of the Holy Spirit used to be. From here it is possible to see the Harpy Eagle, Panama’s national bird, flying freely. Many natural and historic trails are open during the year. In order to enter the park, visitors may arrive at the city of El Real.
